Chess for Kids: Guide for Parents & Teachers
Safe, free chess for kids: no ads and no chat with strangers. Set up Kids mode with a parent PIN, use it in class and follow a 10-minute daily plan.
What keeps children safe: there is no chat with strangers in Kids mode, no ads anywhere on the site and nothing to buy. Children can play without an account. Accounts for children under 13 need a parent's consent first, and we collect as little data as possible (see the privacy policy).
How to set up Kids mode: open Settings, switch on Kids mode and choose a 4–6 digit parent PIN so only a grown-up can switch it off. The menu then shows only kid-friendly pages, and the kids' hub becomes the home page. Teachers can create child accounts for a whole class in classroom mode.
A 10-minute daily plan: 2 minutes for a short lesson, 3 minutes for a mini-game, 3 minutes of puzzles for kids and 2 minutes of play against a friendly computer character or a family member. Short, regular practice builds focus, patience and pattern memory; printable worksheets work for car rides and classrooms.
